Bathsheba Veghte

Bathsheba Veghte’s work is about reconstructing places that have resided within her all her life. The houses are simple symbols of residence that she maps as she delves into her memories and associations of things whose purpose is to shelter family. She searches for what defines home—what we use to identify those things that embody comfort and safety as well as pain and loss. Her understanding of place is complex and dynamic. By constantly revisiting these symbols through her work she is learning to navigate the intimacy of inhabited spaces that are equally reassuring and uncomfortable.
