Lynn Domina
Bobcat
Locals insisted they still
roamed our hills, but I
refused belief
until, driving west
down Sherwood Rd., minutes before dusk,
I saw it, too full for a fox, not mangy
enough for a coyote, its tail short
like everyone said. The bobcat
loped across my road, casual
as a farmer, as I measured
its length, weighed
its head in my mind, strained to see
its yellow eyes. All night
I would say I saw it,
I saw it, I saw it.
